Saturday Shimmy

With just one show to perform at yesterday I took the chance to see something early and plumped for Aaron Levene's "The Guest and the BuJew" (pictured). Held in a tiny room in Opium the place had a PA fit for a nightclub and a curtain separating the room from the bar fit for a shower. Even at lunchtime the noise bleed was irritating - later on in the day it must be atrocious. That aside, the show was great and I definitely recommend it if you're partial to a bit of awkward Jewish humour.

Being Saturday we had high hopes for turnout at Mirthquake and after some vigorous flyering we had 21 in the room all squashed up the front where they could hear the show without the bar room shouts and clinking of glasses. It was a really mixed audience with a front row of older people followed by girls in their early twenties immediately behind and some actual OAPs towards the back. Nick and James did well with James again doing some really effective crowd work. I had the best show of my run with people laughing in the right places, joining in enthusiastically with their parts and even some actual dancing breaking out in two rows. Hands were shook and CDs were shifted. Fortunately I have a full video of it which I'll get online for promoters when I get the chance.

From there it was back to the flat to welcome Andy Onions to the gang and a night out in the West End. It's not the best end....but it is the Edinburgh guest end....
